On 29 May, the Essl Art Award CEE was awarded to Turkish artists Volkan Kızıltunç and Irem Tok in a ceremony at Tophane-i Amire in Istanbul. It was the first participation of Turkey in this competition organized by Essl Museum in Vienna, Austria.
Other nominated artists were Sabahattin Ömer Akdağ, Emre Anılmış, Ragıp Basmazölmez, Bashir Borlakov, Seçil Büyükkan Atmaca, Hakan Dağdelen Burak Delier and Nezihe Karakaya.
Established in 2005 the award is dedicated to the discovery and support of art students at art academies in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and 2013 for the first time also in Turkey.
“It was our desire to promote young artists from Central and Southeast Europe and give them the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in an international museum context that inspired us to endow an art award in countries besides Austria where our family business bauMax is present. The ESSL ART AWARD is conferred every two years.”
