Istanbul based gallery Rampa had a retrospective of acclaimed Turkish artist Gülsün Karamustafa at its booth at this year's Frieze art fair in London running from 15 - 18 October 2014.

Born in Ankara in 1946, the artist has taught at institutions such as the Academy of fine Arts Munich and the Academy of fine arts Vienna. She has made use of diverse media throughout her four-decade-long career, as she investigated ideas of mobility - including displacement, immigration, expatriation, exile and relocation. Working with everyday materials that bear multiple associations, she developed an artistic strategy that reflected a new visual culture taking shape in Turkey in the early 1970s, and peaking in the 1980s as a result of the massive waves of internal migration from rural Tukey to its major cities.
