What began as an initiative by young gallerists in 1996, developed into one of the most important fairs dedicated exclusively to new galleries and primarily to young art. For 20 years, the fair has been making relevant contributions to the promotion of young artists and galleries. The intentionally low number of 79 galleries and the high level of sophistication of those galleries are reasons for LISTE’s success, international reputation and drawing power. For many years now, many young, ambitious galleries have sought to be a part of this important art event.

From 15-20 June, Istanbul based Galeri Zilberman participated in VOLTA with a solo show by "Extrastruggle" aka Memed Erdener. His presentation focused on two deadly issues: the notorious Diyarbakır Prison, one of the worst prisons in the world according to The Times, known for its practice of torture on its inmates after the military coup of 1980, and the fact that there is still no National Slavery Museum in the United States in 2015. Using the pseudonym "Extrastruggle," artist Memed Erdener searches for conscience in people’s genocide of animals, people and gods.

VOLTA, the renowned art fair for new and emerging art, debuted in Basel in 2005 as a collaboration between dealers and friends. The aim was to secure a platform for international galleries beyond young art stalwart Liste and market heavyweight Art Basel. In combination with the curatorial mind of Artistic Director Amanda Coulson, eclectic and dynamic presentations with a strong focus on solo presentations find a stage as refined as at the main fair.

Galerie Nathalie Obadia presented works by SARKIS at the main fair Art Basel from 16-19 June 2015. SARKIS is currently representing Turkey at the 56th Venice Biennial. His works are also part of the exhibition at this year's Armenian Pavilion.
